As we come into the new term, we must be reminded that it is a summer term and we need to protect ourselves from the sun at break times. Remember all children need to have a hat to wear in the playground.
This term we are up to all sorts of new learning experiences. We are continuing our usual reading programme, learning about reading strategies that help us to understand texts and decode hard words. Just a friendly reminder that all children should be reading every night. Some children will have home readers to take home every day so I encourage you to read with your child at some stage every night. If you could also encourage your child to bring back those readers when they are finished with them it would be much appreciated! We are also visiting the Eastbourne Library fortnightly where children can learn about how the library works as well as get a variety of different reading resources.
This term's writing topic is persuasive argument writing. Children will be learning about the features of argument writing including forming an opinion and supporting it with reasons and evidence. This is an exciting writing topic because children can discuss and argue about various ideas that are relevant and interesting to a primary aged child.
In maths we will be revisiting addition, subtraction, multiplication and division strategies as well as fraction work. Children will be able to cover what they have learnt throughout the year and understand where they are at and where they need to go to next.
Our Social Inquiry topic this term is Child Labour. We will be learning that children all around the world have to do different amounts and kinds of work. Many children have to work full time to help their families and miss out on education and learning but there are ways to increase their options and break the child labour cycle. Check out the links on the sidebar. We will be having an art auction in Week 6 to raise money for The Green Gecko Project in Cambodia.
Athletics and swimming feature on our PE schedule this term. Children will be actively learning about the physical skills needed for different athletic events. Athletics Day will be on Tuesday of week 4. Swimming will be in the weeks after athletics day, more information to follow.
This term's art topic is stitching. Children will learn how to thread a needle and create patterns. This will help children with their fine motor skills and teaches the value of patience! This topic has been a great success in the past and the children love doing it!
Term 4 is an important term for homework, so ensure your child is working on spelling, basic facts and reading every single night.
